Starting with the era of wrecking through the eras of sponging, cigar manufacturing, US naval influences, Key West has witnessed many different groups of people come and go, each leaving their own marks on this unique island. On our two-hour Historic Key West Walking Tour, you will be able to see the many historical influences that have created the Key West of today.
The walking tour has a few main themes. The first is architecture. The historic Old Town district of Key West contains the largest collection of wooden frame buildings in Florida. There are over 3,000 historic homes and historic sites in this area, 300 of which are registered under the National Register of Historic Places. Another predominant theme of the tour is the naval influence of Key West. See some of the spots that were important in the US military and learn about other maritime influences.
While walking through the narrow streets of Key West, you will also be treated to the soothing scents of various flowers such as orchids, gardenias, and bromeliads. All tours feature an entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide who will fill you in on the history and facts of the stops and sights you will see along the way.
