Harry S. Truman Little White House

Built on the waterfront of one of Key West's harbors, the Truman Little White House has become one of the most historic landmarks on Key West.

Built in 1890, the property was originally used as a naval station for three American wars, the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. It was in 1946 that President Harry S. Truman decided to use the property as his winter getaway. He spent a full 175 days of vacation time in the tiny white house on the coast of Key West, which is what gave it its name of Truman's Little White House.

The house was also used to house President Dwight Eisenhower after he suffered from a heart attack in 1956 and then to host President John F Kennedy and the British Prime Minister, Harold MacMillan, during the controversial Bay of Pigs. The house was then transformed into the living quarters for commanding officers of the base in the area.

Today the house is available to the public for educational and historic purposes. Visitors come to the house daily to see the quaint house and witness get a feel for the history that took place there.
